How to properly clean the ears of a dog who absolutely hates it?

I've got some ear wipes... Now all I need is tips! I ask my mum to hold him, but in all honesty she's no good at restraining him properly, he ends up wriggling everywhere so if I try to give him ear drops I can't put them in properly, then she ends up letting him go and says "Leave them until tomorrow". He really needs his ears doing though and I have no idea how to do it myself! How can I restrain a skittish Jack Russell enough to do his ears?
