In the series Hellsing, do normal bullets work on ghouls?

I am trying to figure out if normal bullets do absolutely nothing to stop ghouls, or if they are simply being shot in all the wrong places. If they're shot in the head, the heart, or any other vital area, would they die from a normal bullet? I'm under the impression that silver bullets just do a lot more damage and can blow limbs off.
