Will small round polished stones mixed into earth, strengthen the dirt?

We live on side of coastal mountains of Los Angeles area. Have lots of little stones and extra dirt. We don't want to send it all away but use it to increase the stabilization of the hillside. Will the stones increase the strength of the dirt when mixed together?
