Why do some african americans call each other brotha and sista? I think it's stupid.?

I'm a black guy, but I don't go around calling every other black guy and woman I see my brotha or sista... lol, Plus It's so damn annoying when ppl call me that. I'll be like, Im not ur brother..? huh? I think it's really stupid imo. What do you think?
