I'm so confused. I need some advice from anyone!!!?

I want to run for cl president for next year. I'm also taking one AP course, and I'm applying for news editor next year. My parents and my journalism teacher keep telling me that it's a bad idea, and they keep comparing me to people who tried to do it and failed. I'm a big people pleaser and I'm considering giving up things that I really want to do. I need some help. And giving up this AP course is not an option.
