Stony Brook University or Cuny Hunter?

Hi i was wondering could someone help me out I'm currently a Sopre at San Francisco State University(sfsu) my major is biology and I have a 3.6 GPA. i'm on the pre-med track. I plan on transferring and my top two choices are Stony Brook University or Cuny Hunter and i was wondering which school is better for a career in medicine, also i'm confused about this whole Suny and Cuny thing is it like in California with the UC's and cal states also i want the whole New York city experience. Is it true while Stony Brook University is a good school it's not anywhere near New York City? Also any other suggestions for schools would be great thanks.
